Viterbo’s campus is full of passionate and impactful students. This November, the Lumen chose to feature one of these students, Bella Brunton, a junior biology major with minors in psychology and ethics. She is originally from Monroe, Wisconsin, and came to Viterbo originally because of the small class sizes and the opportunity to join the show choir before it was no longer available. Brunton is also the proud owner of a Chinchilla named Chillie.
Brunton chose her biology major because she would like to go to medical school after graduating from Viterbo. She states that during her first year and a half, she was not entirely sure what she wanted to do, but she has recently fallen back on the path that medical school is the place she wants to go. As for her minors, Brunton said she chose a minor in psychology because she likes it and figured that taking a few psychology courses would be something she found enjoyable. Regarding her minor in ethics, she states that she “just think[s] it’s super important to learn how to be a more ethical and moral person. But also, given that I want to go into the medical field, ethics is a huge part of…the decisions I’ll have to make.”
Alongside her studies, Brunton is involved around Viterbo’s campus. She is currently a resident assistant (RA) and has been for the past two years. She is also a member of Resident Housing Association (RHA). She was an officer of the STEM club last year, and this year became the president of STEM club. Brunton is the vice president of TriBeta, an honors society for the sciences at Viterbo. This year is Bella’s first year being involved in Viterbo’s Student Government Association (SGA), where she is a representative for the junior class.
She also shares how she loves that students at Viterbo have the chance to get to know their professors. “Just hearing other people’s experience at bigger schools or universities…they barely know their professors, but the professors here actually care. [T]hey want to get to know me, and sometimes they like taking jabs at me during class, which I find enjoyable.”
After graduating from Viterbo and attending medical school, Brunton is not sure what specialty she would like to go into. She states she would “just like to be happy and at peace with the decisions I’ve made throughout my life.”
The Lumen is confident that Bella will do great in anything she decides to do and wishes her success and happiness wherever life takes her.
