As the Viterbo campus welcomes in the new fall season, they also welcome change. Students have seen the leaves begin to fall, the dorms finally becoming tolerable, and the Murphy Center somehow getting hotter. Many see the new season as a time to bring about wondrous changes. While students have experienced new things over the past several months, unbeknownst to them, another change was happening right before their eyes.
A mere three months into the academic year, a campus-wide email was received by all students, alumni, staff, and faculty announcing some shocking news. The email was blank, with a screenshot of a notes app screen attached. The first line of this attachment was “Bye Sisters!” The message was riddled with acronyms and slang, and was signed “Peace out, Prez Rizz T.”
After deciphering the message, it has become clear that following Viterbo University President Dr. Rizz T’s recent social media success, he has announced he will be stepping down from his role as president. The shocking news comes after a viral TikTok that has inspired him to pursue social media full time. Dr. Rizz states that his future plans include “getting coin and slaying the social media scene.”
The Lemon had a conversation with seventh semester alliteration major Sally S. Seashell following the news. “You know, we expected more from Dr. Rizz. But at least he was not caught on… other sites. We are happy to see him on TikTok; there were surely worse choices.”
Seashell is not the only one who feels this way. A wave of disappointment, shock, but also excitement has been shared across campus since the announcement. Many students have expressed that they thought Dr. Rizz would keep his position within the university, however, believe that it may be the right move for his career. “Well if he has reached this much success, why not keep going? Viterbo is temporary; swag is forever,” says fermentation major Stewie Brews.
Dr. Rizz’s news seems to have been relatively well received across campus. His administrative assistant turned public relations manager accidentally ‘replied all’ to the email and shared “I’m so excited! I love the TikTok and Facebook! My daughter said you ate. Not sure what you’re eating but I’m glad you’re not hungry!” Maybe email is not her thing, but we are glad she is excited!
Dr. Rizz has quickly started a podcast (which you can find on SoundCloud) where he discusses with college students the complexity of acronyms such as GOAT and LOL. Alongside his podcast, you can now find him on all social media platforms (yes, including Threads and Pinterest) at @doc.rizz.t.
What comes after this news, students are not sure. The Board of Trustees has a meeting to discuss the future of the presidential position. One can only assume a Qualtrics survey will soon hit VU Today, and students will be able to share their thoughts. The Lemon will continue following this story, as well as Dr. Rizz on social media.
