The final year of college is, for many, a time full of memories, reflection, and emotion. Seniors like Jonah Ogunsanya are known to never take a moment for granted and to reflect on the moments that got them to where they are today. For Ogunsanya, this year was full of life lessons, “When I look back at my previous years, I realize how important the small things are day to day,” Ogunsanya said. Between appreciating and critiquing small details, Ogunsanya was able to notice the tiniest mistakes on the basketball court that he hadn’t noticed during his previous years.
Ogunsanya has taken time to reflect on his memories of the team. When asked how this year was different, he responded, “I give credit to the coaching staff. They have created a strong team-oriented environment that brings us players together.” According to Ogunsanya, coaching tends to leave the most impact on a player. Between teaching them fundamentals, aggressive play, being a support system and challenging their players, Ogunsanya says his experience was fulfilling.
Next, Ogunsanya discussed what advice he would give to the underclassmen. “I would advise them to make aggressive mistakes and remain confident in themselves no matter the outcome,” he said. When reflecting on the impact seniors have on their teammates, Ogunsanya said that he wished to inspire and leave his mark so that his teammates would remember his advice.
Sophomore Lukas Hoffman explained that “Jonah is a hardworking, caring, and reliable teammate. Since his arrival in the fall, he’s been someone to easily connect with, and someone to rely on for advice. Apart from that, he’s also a very humorous person. He’s overall a great teammate, and I am happy to play with him in his last season.”
While senior year is a reflection year, it is also a year to look forward to the time when you begin your career. Ogunsanya has taken his time to think about his future, anxious but ambitious for what’s to come. When asked what’s next, he stated, “I’m going to continue my education and begin my coaching career.”
