Reaching goals and striving for success is something we all love whether it be in sports, or in general. We thrive on the sensation of accomplishment and cherish the journey it took to get there. For our very own men’s soccer team, a breakthrough toward success has led to outstanding achievements.
The men’s soccer team reached an accomplishment of 10 season wins–something that has not happened since the year 2022. With this, it has led to a CCAC quarterfinals win, a CCAC semifinals win, and now an opportunity to win it all in the championship game.
“Getting to this amount of wins is a team effort and means a lot to the program because it’s something that hasn’t happened in a long time. It’s something that will help us moving forward,” said senior, Diego Idrobo.
Aside from the accomplishment itself, it is important we also look at the factors it takes to reach success like this. Character, teamwork, work ethic, and drive all played factors for the men’s soccer team, and their compassion for the sport helped push them forwards.
“Being a senior now and reaching this accomplishment really means a lot. We value each other’s characters and fight as a family, we run as a family, and we defend as a family–which will always lead to greater outcomes,” said Idrobo.
Reflection is also important. Looking back on past games and digesting what went right and what went wrong then focusing on those points is always a big factor in success.
“Every game represents our effort. Every minute and every second that goes in the game we fight for each other. Every game, every minute and every second shows what this school is about. Family,” spoke Idrobo.
With this being such a tight and family-like community, we also look at the leaders on and off the field such as Idrobo. This, being his senior year along with many other players that start for our men’s soccer team, led with resilience, strength and commitment.
“There are so many mixed emotions with this being my last season. As a senior, you think about all of the moments you and the team have been through. But it also feels like you have no time to think about it because you’re always playing two or three games every five days. It’s a little sad, but we’re more mature now and just want to end it with a win. I’m happy that I was a tribute to this team, and that I did it for four years,” he said.
Overall, with new leaders, new expectations and new passion, the love for the game lives on. They not only play their best game for themselves and each other, but they play it for the Viterbo community.
