At the beginning of October, some of Viterbo’s interns hosted a contest for the best room on campus. Students were able to submit photos of their room to the competition, and the voting took place through Viterbo University’s Instagram account’s stories.
Katie Furlan, the admissions coordinator for the Conservatory for the Performing Arts and the admissions marketing coordinator, oversaw the competition. Furlan explained how the interns came up with this contest, as this was the first year it has occurred. She mentioned how when students are choosing a college, one of the main questions is, “What do the dorms look like?”
She said she was hoping to find a few students who would be willing to have their rooms filmed for the university to better show off the living situations on campus. The interns then brainstormed ideas before landing on a best room contest. There were no requirements to participate in the contest; students just sent photos of their room. The submissions were then posted to the Instagram account story on October 3, 2025, and students were encouraged to vote for their favorite. The votes were then tallied to find the winner. The stories got a lot of engagement with many people voting.
The winners of the contest were Katie Lewis and Claire Roff, and the winning room was Room 6. The prize for the winning room was a $25 gift card from Target.
Furlan expresses her desire to make this a yearly contest. Additionally, most of the submissions for this year were dorm rooms. She mentioned interest in hosting a contest for apartments specifically to showcase more of the different living options on campus.
Furlan also encourages students to participate in Viterbo’s social media campaigns, stating that “not only does it bring [the] campus closer together, but it is also a really strong marketing tool. So, to help us spread the word about how great of a school Viterbo is, it really shows to have student engagement.” If students have ideas for Instagram, they are encouraged to contact Furlan.
