College sports at any given level aren’t easy. Athletes spend hours each day, each week, and each month for four years strengthening their bodies and their mindsets. During their first year, many athletes do not get the opportunity to play. They spend their season training, preparing for their sophomore season when they get their chance to shine. For Jada Mitchell, her sophomore year was the start of something amazing and unbelievable.
Going into her sophomore year, Mitchell only had two kills. Now, in the middle of her senior season, Mitchell has over one thousand kills. To see such an accomplishment here at Viterbo is all the more fantastic. The volleyball team is not only number one in their conference, but stats such as Mitchell’s lead the board.
Aside from athletics, Mitchell also succeeds in her leadership skills and holding her teammates to a high standard as team captain.
“Jada is an all-around amazing athlete, but she’s also a great person. She’s really fun to be around. She brings a lot of energy to the team, and she also tells us when we need to pick it up–in which we do. She’s also a great captain,” first-year player, Maddi Quist said.
“I feel that as a player she’s made me better by playing with her. But as a person she’s made me have a better attitude when it comes to volleyball, and just being more open to other ideas of positions on the team. Overall, she’s made me a better person on and off the court,” Quist added.
With this, we see just how deep Mitchell’s personality and natural talent go. She not only inspires her younger teammates, but she leads them and sets an example on and off of the court. Athletes like these are hard to come by, but Mitchell has done it and is still excelling.
