Noah Blackburn, a student majoring in music education, shares his experience as the stage manager of “The Marriage of Figaro.” He says, “I have been working on this production since last semester, but the past five weeks have been where I’ve put in the most work. I have overseen sending out schedules and coordinating various aspects of the show, so there is no shortage of things for me to do.”
Observing the entire process and occasionally offering advice on various elements has been his favorite part of being a member of the production team. Each member of the team has brought their unique skills and perspectives, contributing to the overall success of the opera. Blackburn highlights the rewarding aspects of working on the production: “My favorite part of being a member of the production team is getting to observe the entire process and occasionally offering my advice on any number of things. There are a couple of funny moments that I pride myself in helping to inspire.”
Blackburn mentions, “Rehearsals for this opera have largely had two main focuses, with those being music and staging. Because everything in this production is sung on pitch, having a really solid memorization of the entire show has been essential for the cast.” The music in the production brings Mozart’s genius to life, capturing the emotions and nuances of each character, creating an immersive experience for the audience.
With the staging, the team has been making meticulous decisions to bring the best, funniest, and most emotionally convincing performance to the audience in the coming performance week. The staging complements the music, with careful choreography and stage directions that ensure every moment is impactful and engaging.
